Deerfield Beach, Florida
As America’s first Project Impact Community, Deerfield Beach, Florida had the privilege of creating model programs to prevent and mitigate the damage of natural disasters. These models have now been replicated in communities across the country. N.E. Focal Point/CASA advocates for children’s, Alzheimer’s, senior’s and adult services in the city. This volunteer program organized the first five-day-a-week Alzheimer’s Day Care Center in Broward County. The Fort Riverbend Playground was built by more than 1,500 volunteers to resemble a frontier fort. Community members were active in fund raising efforts, including a campaign driven by children titled “Pennies for Our Playground.”
